Taharka Brothers Ice Cream
It was finally cool enough to take a walk around the Inner Harbor tonight after writing all day. Walking away from Federal Hill towards the Power Plant, I passed a small building and noticed they were selling Taharka Brothers Ice Cream. Tapping into my self-discipline, I kept walking.
I then saw people in line at the Rita’s Italian Ice that I’d walked to repeatedly last summer only for it to be closed every time. My discipline was flagging. As I walked up to the window the couple in front of me left without anything. I soon found out why; only lemon and cotton candy ice and vanilla custard were available. Part of me was grateful, I kept walking.
When I reached the Power Plant I saw Lucky’s Ice Cream Shop at the corner. Looking at the list of available ice cream, three were marked as from Taharka Brothers. My interest piqued, I started back. Towards the end of the walk, I stopped to look at the small ice cream stand I’d initially passed.
The ice cream shop was part of The Choice Program at UMBC, which “provides engaging programming, connection to resources and holistic case management to youth in Maryland’s communities.” Additionally, the shop provides job training and career development to help youth start on their way to employment success.
Standing near the line of people, I looked up the ice cream. I saw there’s a permanent stall down the street in Cross Street Market (and in Lexington Market), as well as other locations and is available for local and national delivery.
